about

This album is a patchwork of rooms recorded by nine artists*. The accompanying image is a floor plan of these rooms. It comes from the words of my cuckoo song highlighted in grey. Here is more about the album:

"During May 2020 I put out a call and asked people to record a room in their home at a peaceful time of night or day. I then placed a verse of my cuckoo song into each room and sent it back to each artist a month later. The song tells the tale of the cuckoo bird, a bird that visits the UK for just ten weeks in the spring, and is mimetic of the male bird’s call. I embedded all five verses into the resonances of these rooms and spread them out across the album as a whole. The words are disguised by the rooms that host them like the cuckoo that hides its eggs in other birds nests.

Although these tracks were recorded over a month, listening to the album feels like listening to a passing day from morning to night through various windows of time from a strange collective house. Each room can be visited in passing, revisited again and again or not at all."
